NEWARK MUSEUM 2/15 and MoMA 2/22

NEWARK MUSEUM Friday 2/15: Pat Wessel will be meeting you for the tour at 11:40am in the entrance lobby of the museum. I will not be joining you as I am out of town. The tour is $9 per person. Parking in the museum lot is $6-$7 per car. After the tour please stay on in the museum and see as many galleries as you can. Especially concentrating on the mid-century and contemporary galleries. Be sure to see the exhibition "Women Behind the Lens" and the contemporary African American galleries (Ms. Wessel might be taking you to see these.) Explore the museum as much as possible while considering the questions. Feel free to ask Ms. Wessel some of these questions too.

Please answer:
What is the role of the museum?
Who is the audience of the institution?
Does the institution think about the community? collector? artist? history?
What is the purpose of collection?
Why exhibition?
Is labeling important? Why or why not?
Who are the artists being exhibited? Why?
What considerations should be taken in selection?
What is the role of the curator?
How are exhibitions put together?
What are the elements of a successful exhibition?
Why multiple exhibitions? What are they?
How is all of this funded?
Who helps run the institution and how?
How can this be sustained?

MoMA Friday 2/22: We will meet our host Steven Wheeler just inside the main entrance doors at 11:45am. Please be ontime! Be sure I have your phone number before this date.
