MOMA

The MOMA is located in midtown Manhattan in New York City. One of the major rolls of the museum is to educate everyone from young children to adults. MOMA looks for artists that are more famous and international artists. The audience of the MOMA is more international visitors, students, children and the local community. Steven Wheller who was tour guide talked about how the collectors is more of a business to see which painting is missing from the collection how they can make the collecting better by bring something else. The artist for the museum is looked at to get attention and make the artists and museum more noticeable. The history of MOMA is important in a way because they have old historic painting that can never be taken down because they are important to history itself and the history of the museum. The MOMA has a huge selection from of architecture, design, drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, prints, and many more mediums. They have a huge collection of art so there is a little bit of everything for everyone. Labeling is also very important for the museum and for the viewers because it gives them information about the medium, artists and also has what year of the artwork.  MOMA focus on displaying more modern artists even they still display historic paintings. The role of the curator at the MOMA is very important. One person focuses on each display of the show. The job of the curators is to find out what’s missing from the collection and how they can make it better. They also have to tell the board why a certain piece is important to their the show and why they should buy it. The exhibition is put together in Chronological order or based on a certain theme. A successful show has all the elements of good exposure, great artwork, and lighting, how well the labeling is. The museum is funded by funded by Admission fees, donations, special membership programs and fundraisers. The fees alone don’t cover the fees for the museum. The MOMA is ran by their permeate staff. They have a staff for each part of the museum. For example they have group of people that just repair paintings, a staff that adjusts the lighting and that is their only focus in the museum. This can be sustained by getting regular visitors and keeping a close relationship with the community, artists and curators. Visiting the MOMA gave a whole new perspective on going to the museum and has me thinking about how much hard work and times goes into actually putting a show together and that its not only person there is a huge team of people working together to make a show successful and every little detail counts.
